Charley Stadler Biography

Globally lauded German director Charley Stadler is perhaps best known for his ability to blend highly stylised visual storytelling into effective and moving spots for multitude of commercial genres.While earning a master degree in visual communication, Stadler began a career in fashion photography. He quickly found himself shooting images across the globe for magazines such as Elle, Vogue and Max, as well as ad campaigns for a variety of brands, including Big Star Jeans. His striking visuals also found a niche on many of rock and pop album covers, which he shot for label BMG Ariola.In the mid 1990s, Stadler moved from still photography to commercial directing. He has directed commercials for numerous clients, including BMW, Smint, T-Online, Swisscom, Guiness and Mercedes Benz among others. His projects meld the techniques and conventions he perfected during his years as a fashion photographer with the strong visual and musical storytelling that are inherent to European spots.The international advertising community has taken note of Stadler's adaptable talent. The director has been the recipient of dozens of awards in New York, London, Cannes and Montreux among other cities, and in 1997, Campaign magazine singled him out of "the worlds hottest new directors".In addition to commercials, Stadler has also had success in short and long-form films. His short film "8cht" won accolades at the Goethe Institute and Bilbao Film Festivals in 1998.Last year Charley has directed his first feature film, Dead Fish (2005) starring Gary Oldman and Robert Carlysle. It is due to release in 2005. Fine Line Features has hired him to direct the futuristic thriller _Roofworld (2005)_.
