Romano Orzari Biography
Romano Orzari began his formative theatre training at a QDF workshop with Joe Dowling, long standing Artistic Director of the Guthrie Theatre. Upon completion Romano moved to New York City, became a bike messenger and collectively spent five years at schools such as The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, intensive workshops with Ron Stetson in the Sanford Meisner Technique and a workshop with Group Theatre alumni Bobby Lewis. But it was his three-year tenure at the Stella Adler Theatre Conservatory (his final year with the legendary teacher herself), which solidified his studies.During his 3rd year at the Conservatory, he landed his first full-length feature "Bix" with nationally acclaimed Italian director Pupi Avati. Portraying the unique jazz pianist and composer Hoagy Carmichael. It was officially selected for competition at the 1991 Cannes Film Festival where his performance received notable reviews in The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. For the director's following film, Romano recuperating from an unfortunate car accident, was offered a supporting role in "Brothers and Sisters". Which was officially selected in competition at the 1992 Venice Film Festival.Romano was awarded The Yves Montand Best Lead Actor Award at the 1997 Kiev International Film Festival for his searing performance in "Burnt Eden". For the same year it went on to win Best Film at the Montreal Festival of New Cinema, short-listed at the Cannes Film Festival and tremendously showcased at IFP West in Los Angeles. This recognition helped in landing the lead role for the multiple Gemini winning TV series "Omerta", directed by George Mihalka. Romano's work is still endearingly remembered to this day. Acting in four different languages, he also garnered two nominations for Best Lead Actor; firstly for The Prix Gemeaux in 1999 (Gemini Awards) and secondly for The Gala MetroStar in 2000 (People's Choice Award). In "Baby for Sale" playing opposite Dana Delany, he was nominated for a 2006 ACTRA Award for Best Male Performance in a Drama. At the 2007 SMMASH Film Festival, he earned another nomination in the multiple-award winning independent film by Christopher Smets, "The Overlookers". Soon followed "The Last Hitman". Romano had the opportunity to Star opposite Joe Mantegna. This collaboration had a lasting and profound effect on his precision as an actor.Other films include "Punisher: War Zone" playing Dominic West's consigliere with a twist. He's appeared in "Hidden Diary", by 2002 Cannes Film Festival Camera d'Or winner Julie Lopes-Curval, and featured with award winning actresses Marina Hands and the luminous Catherine Deneuve. He's also featured as Icarus in Tarsem Singh's Immortals.Further credits include playing the assassin Giovanni Auditore in Ubisoft's hit "Assassin's Creed Lineage"; directed by Emmy Award winning director Yves Simoneau. Romano has used his linguistic abilities improvising in three different languages for the Borsos Award Winner and Best Picture Genie nominated "3 Seasons".Other TV credits include guest starring on The Listener, Nikita and having a recurring role in the critically acclaimed series "Durham County" (Season 2) as the beautifully warped arch nemesis Ray Prager.2013 is geared to be a very exciting year, due to having a very intense 2012 shooting schedule with plenty of variety.Romano, as Tracker, leads a tight and great ensemble cast in the anticipated new black comedy series, "24 Hour Rental", airing on the Super Channel Network this September 2013. In the feature "The Colony", as Reynolds, he gets to play along with Bill Paxton and Lawrence Fishburne, as an underground survivor in a post apocalyptic future. Another from French director Julien Leclercq, "The Informant", is a period piece based on real events, filmed in southern Spain and Gibraltar. Never to shy from indie films, "Hot Dog" will have Romano pitted in a ridiculous comedy trying to connect all the dots with would be Quebec hot dog impresarios posing as gangsters. In "Uncontrollable", by frequent collaborating and truly indie-filmmaker Eugene Garcia, Romano's work has been receiving extremely positive reviews on the festival circuit. And no less, on July 4th, Roland Emmerich's star studded "White House Down" will kick the door wide open as he plays ex-IRA sniper Faolan Mulcahy.Currently this January 2013, he will be playing Desiderio in the animation feature Ballerina and the lead of a reboot Eidos video game series that is immensely and globally anticipated.
