American Mary (2012)

A movie I was aching to see when i heard about it a couple of months ago.... Katharine Isabelle has impressed me ever since Ginger Snaps - the Soska Sisters not so much, after having already seen "Dead Hooker in the Trunk", which is pretty terrible by any judgement. The movie is totally held together by Isabelle who is on her absolutely best form ever - Seductive and scary, deeply emotional but sociopathically driven - her performance is immaculate from beginning to end. The music? Soundtrack wise the Soskas have tried basically to copy AMERICAN PSYCHO and it's glaringly both obvious and weak. If you live outside the "normaL" realm of your 9-5 robots, you won't find anything that 's unique here (again, with the exception of Isabelle), and the Soska Sisters' movies will start getting a million times better as soon as they stop appearing in them. Yeuch! You can generally see where it's going, but it does it stylishly. And don't ask her for piercings.
